Peter Leven dispatches the winning goal v Bradford City and CaptainOx goes to cloud 9.
Tuesday December 28th 2010 to Saturday January 12th 2013. The period of time in which it took for me to see an Oxford win. At the sixteenth time of asking, it happened and there was no better way for it to happen. We went behind to an early Bradford goal after a defensive mix-up before striking back within minutes. Then after dominating the entire game, we were given a penalty just as the clock rolled past the ninety minute mark. Up stepped Peter Leven to tuck the ball away and send me into that hysteria that can only be caused by a 90th minute penalty winner. As well as dispatching my winless run, it also brought an end to a 5 year wait for a win in Yorkshire as well. Saturday was clearly a day for records to be broken.
As much as I enjoyed the victory, I have to say I was very impressed by the teams performance and desire - they always wanted to win the game. Chris Wilder has to take a huge amount of credit for his team selection and tactics; the new look defensive five rarely looked troubled and new signing Lewis Montrose (nicknamed 'The Terminator' by Leven) looked solid, very solid. Justin Richards was his same old self - a tireless worker but with a lack of goal threat. The positive aspects of that Oxford United XI were endless.
4 straight victories in League Two and we need to follow them up with good results against Rotherham and Fleetwood to really make our mark in the top half and hopefully on the play-offs. Things are looking positive but for how long - hopefully for a lot longer yet. It's always a rollercoaster supporting Oxford United!
